Kitchen Chimney Buying Guide India (2026): Suction, Width & Autoclean Explained
How much suction do you really need? What's the difference between 60cm and 90cm? Is autoclean worth it? Everything you need to know about kitchen chimneys.

If you do regular Indian frying — pakoras, dosa, masala curries, or anything tadka-heavy — a chimney isn't optional. The wrong chimney means greasy walls, smoke-filled kitchens, and odors that won't leave. Here's how to pick one that actually works.
1. What size: 60cm or 90cm?
The rule is simple: chimney width should match your stove width (or be slightly larger).
- 2-burner stove: 60cm chimney is enough
- 3-burner stove: 60cm minimum, 75cm ideal
- 4-burner stove or kitchen island: 90cm
An undersized chimney misses smoke from outer burners. An oversized one wastes money and disrupts air flow.
2. How much suction power?
Measured in m³/hour (cubic meters per hour). The rule:
- 800–1000 m³/hr: Light cooking, mostly boiling/steaming
- 1100–1300 m³/hr: Mainstream Indian cooking
- 1400+ m³/hr: Heavy frying, large kitchens, or open kitchens
3. Filterless vs filter chimneys
Filter chimney: Uses baffle or cassette filters to trap grease. Filters need cleaning monthly and replacement every 1–2 years.
Filterless chimney: Uses centrifugal force to throw grease outward and collect it. Much less maintenance.
For Indian cooking with heavy frying, filterless is the better choice in 2026. Worth the slight premium.
4. Autoclean: marketing or genuine benefit?
Genuine benefit if you fry frequently. Autoclean chimneys heat up internally and burn off accumulated oil and grease, then collect the residue in a tray. You only empty the tray every 1–3 months instead of scrubbing the chimney.
5. BLDC motors: worth the premium?
Yes if your kitchen needs the chimney running for hours daily. BLDC motors are 30–40% more energy efficient and significantly quieter. Premium upfront, but pays off over 3+ years.
6. Wall-mount vs island vs built-in
- Wall-mount: Most common, easy installation, widest selection
- Island: For kitchen islands. Premium pricing, complex installation
- Built-in: Hidden in cabinet, sleek look, expensive and inflexible
